I believe that children learn through manipulation in a variety of different ways whether it be people, things or items. Manipulation of items, such as through play, is how children first begin learning how to build on their skills, in my opinion children learn how to use their gross motor skills, which then follows when they begin to master certain skills, they can then start utilizing their fine motors skills, and as time progresses, they begin to use their cognitive skills. Eventually children can in a combination, use their gross motor skills, fine motor skills and sometimes both, alongside their cognitive skills.
I believe the purposes of early learning and child care are to help children learn self help skills that they will use for lifelong learning. Child care is an advantage to children because there are a number of different play experiences, and toys that are setup just for the very reason of helping children learn and eventually master skills that will be of great benefit to them in the future.
I believe a responsive environment is one that allows for a child not only to learn how to manipulate their body’s to do continue learning how to do and master skills on a daily basis, but one that allows for the children to build on skills that are learnt better amongst groups, such as their social and emotional skills. Through having small and large group experiences, as I feel these allow for children to regulate emotions, deal with people properly and have more advancement throughout their lives, even following them into their careers.
I believe my role with children and families is to build not only bonds with children, but families as well, as if we can have clear communication lines on how the child is doing on a daily basis at the centre. Whenever and if ever there are any problems arise then we more than the parent has had prior knowledge about how their child has been fairing in the classroom, and not only when there is a problem that occurs. We can work as a team in terms of building on plans, to in order to benefit the child. I also believe I am there not only to be an educator for children, but parents as well, because there are things that I can inform parents on in order to help them when the child is outside of the centre. I can and will have a variety of newsletters, pamphlets, brochures and calendars, to inform parents of what will be happening in the classroom, along with things and places they can take their children to do for free or an inexpensive price to them.
